Museum of Moving Image Blog

Museum of Moving Image
For my trip to the Museum of Moving Image, there were some rather fascinating exhibits that I visited during the trip that I felt were rather interesting to talk. One of them in particular was the Automated Dialogue Replacement booth. What was interesting about interacting with this was that it is used for dubbing lines. One example of this was used in a scene from the Movie Babe, in which the Audience was able to record their own voices as replacements for the dialogue which was rather cool to experience. It was interesting to find out that the dubbing of line is also used for cartoons and characters played by animals. I discovered that the reason ADR is used because of situations such as technical problems, unwanted noise such as outside noise and flubbed lines which were interesting to find out.
Another interesting exhibits that I interacted with, was the sound mixing booth which was rather exciting sine it was fun to tinker around with different sounds from clips such as the Simpsons and Terminator 2 Judgment Day. It is said that a feature film can contain thousands of sound effects which is rather interesting. In terms of how it used in media, the sound editor selects the sounds from a library and manipulates them to achieve the desired effect for the scene.
One of the last exhibits that I interacted with was the music demo, since it is rather relevant in media because music is rather important to the movie. What I mean by this, is that music can strongly affect the meaning or emotional impact of a scene. It does this by reinforcing the visuals, dialogue, and other sounds or, by creating a counterpoint. Other reasons for music’s importance in media, is that the soundtrack of a film can include original music, created by the composer, or existing music, which is selected by the music supervisor which is a rather cool fact.

This the best that I can do with the Stamp Art Assignment, considering how difficult it was for me to do it.

Difficulties of Technology

Sometimes I wonder why is that Technology can be rather difficult to comprehend. Sometimes I ask myself why is that simple process can turn into such a tedious process.

What Makes a good Picture?

Sometimes I ask myself, What makes a good picture? Is the quality and the richness of it and is it the meaning behind the piece that truly makes it wonderful. I will admit that nice artwork does get one's attention but what happens when it is not a picture not as nice, but somehow manages to capture a different message?
These are the Photos that I decided to post of What Life is Like in Hunter College. It shows that Campus life is very productive and busy. The pictures seem to be show the images in closeups. I think that it is rather fascinating to see what goes in a place like Manhattan and see what life outside campus is like.

The Academy Awards?

I was rather impressed with the Academy Awards this year. I was glad the the King's Speech won 4 Academy Awards for best director, best actor, best original screenplay and best picture. I think Colin Firth deserved the win for his role as King George. I will admit that even though Inception didn't win for best picture, at least it won for best visual effects, best cinematography, best sound editing and mixing. Even the other fan favorite Social Network won 3 awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Original Score. I was so happy that Natalie Portman won for best actress, since she was fantastic as the tortured ballerina dancer Nina.

Star Wars

I will admit that I find Star wars to be a rather fascinating concept, since I believe that like Star Trek, it gave a sense of hope but also a sense of new direction that would forever change the future of Sci-Fi forever. I will admit that it is a rather series having the rebels fight against the Galactic Empire as a way of ending the oppressive regime of corruption and evil.

Artist Statement

I am hoping to work in the film industry as a screenwriter since I love the idea of writing stories for film and TV. I believe that it would be a fascinating experience to see how the writing process for moviemaking and TV would be like, since it is a huge passion for me. I have considered the possibility of pursuing cinematography, since imagery and scenery is part of the essence of filmmaking, since it captures another world with its beautiful scenery and having the audience feel as though they are a part of that world. What I am hoping to accomplish with my work, is that it sends a message of how films can inspire people and what the message was behind the piece.
Science Fiction has been a rather fascinating genre for me to explore, since one of my favorite shows, Star Trek taught that the unknown is something that should be embraced, not feared. It shows what possibilities may lay ahead if humanity was to become more unified. It also shows that the human potential is endless when wanting to help out the greater good. A film director that I felt inspired me was Martin Scorsese since his films tended to explore the grittiness and dark side of human life but also brings a sense of realism to them, in films such as the Departed and the Goodfellas which happen to be some of my favorite works of his. James Cameron is another filmmaker that I am intrigued by, since his films like Titanic, Aliens, and Terminator are character detailed and tend to have futuristic themes to them. The character Rocky Balboa from the Rocky series shows that no matter where you came from, that you can always make something of yourself and be a true inspiration to those around you, which also leads to a great amount of respect and admiration from others. Lara Croft happens to be a favorite game icon for me, since I love her strength and independence, but sense of adventure to explore new places and where it may lead.
